One of our well kept secrets at Secret Clubhouse is Flami Valente, Creative Director at Flowers & Beyond. She hails from Italy, by way of Costa Rica, and now divides her time between New York City and Rome. Having such a cultivated youth, lent to her passion for colorful and dynamic designs. She comes by her creativity naturally with an interior designer mother and an architect father, who encouraged her interest in art and design. Her credentials include a degree in Art Direction from the European Institute of Design and a certification as a Wedding Planner and Event Designer from the Wedding Planning Institute and IWED.
Secret Clubhouse: Who is your style icon?
Flami: My style icon is Karen Tran, her floral designs are absolutely amazing and her signature weddings are just luscious and beautiful.
Secret Clubhouse: Do you have a favorite flower?
Flami: My favorite flowers are Peonies and any David Austin Rose.
Secret Clubhouse: How do you prepare for the upcoming wedding season? Any personal rituals?
Flami: The wedding season is around the corner and the winter time is when you recharge your batteries, I practice yoga on a daily basis :)
Secret Clubhouse: If you weren’t a Creative Floral Designer, what would you be?
Flami: I’d be a make-up artist or a jazz singer!
Secret Clubhouse: If you could pick anyone in the world, past or present, to design an arrangement for, who would it be? Why? And what would the arrangement look like?
Flami: The past: Janis Joplin - I’d make a huge bouquet with garden roses, peonies, and lots of cascading wild flowers in jewel tones, including all shades of purples and burgundy, dark greens, and pops of yellow!
Secret Clubhouse: Do you have any advice for someone wanting to get into the floral arrangement business?
Flami: All you need to be a floral designer is to have a great creative mind - it’s not only about knowing flowers but to really know how to match colors and texture - being a floral designer is fun!
Secret Clubhouse: Do you draw your designs out first? Or do you jump in and just start creating from your vision?
Flami: I always try to get some inspiration first. After I meet with my clients, I always brainstorm with the designers and get inspiration from the flowers at the flower market. I create a mood board for my client based on what we discussed and once the mood board is approved, we design the centerpieces, bouquets, etc.
